Who is a skilled nursing home resident?
Skilled nursing home residents are people who live in skilled nursing home facilities due to their physical and health condition(s).
Our Mission
Hands of Agape is a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to enriching the lives of skilled nursing home residents in California by showing God's love through the provision of goods, services, and resources. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for these residents, addressing their unique needs and fostering a sense of compassion and community.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Skilled nursing home facilities play a vital role in our communities, providing essential care for both short-term and long-term residents. These residents live in the facilities due to ongoing physical or medical conditions that require consistent support and supervision.
Approximately 80% of residents in skilled nursing home facilities are classified as long-term care residents, meaning the facility serves as their permanent home. With over 1,230 skilled nursing home facilities across California and a combined resident population exceeding 97,000, these facilities support a significant portion of individuals in need of continuous care.
Residents depend on these facilities for a wide range of services, including nursing care (such as IVs, injections, and bathing assistance), physical, occupational and speech therapies, medication management, medical equipment and supplies, social services, dietary support, wound care, cardiac and pulmonary care, post-stroke rehabilitation, and more.
Many residents face ongoing health challenges and limited opportunities for social engagement. As a result, skilled nursing home facilities often resemble hospital settings, with medical equipment and hospital-style rooms.
Hands of Agape is dedicated to enriching the lives of these residents by providing meaningful items and services. Our mission is to ensure they feel seen, valued, and most importantly—loved and not forgotten.
Our Services
Hands of Agape provides the following programs and are not limited to:
· Heart2Heart Companions:
Connect volunteers (who have cleared a background check) with skilled nursing residents to support their social, mental, and emotional well-being
· Resident Essentials Fund:
Provide gifts and personal supplies for skilled nursing residents
· Care Beyond Coverage:
Financially assist with needed custom medical equipment and other necessities not covered by insurance, family, or self
· Community Connections:
Enrichment Outings: Take skilled nursing residents who are physically able and mentally able on outings outside of the facility via Hands of Agape company vehicles. Residents will be visiting parks, malls, zoos, festivals, and various other locations or activities outside of the skilled nursing facility
